Marlice J. Shirley August 30,1940 – September 19, 2026
Marlice June Shirley was born on August 30, 1940, and was raised in Minneapolis, MN creating a lifelong Vikings football fan. She married Bill Shirley on May 2,1964 and settled in North Hudson, WI where they started their life and family together. Along with raising their daughters, Marlice worked for 26 years as the Treasurer of North Hudson.
Her Trinity Lutheran Church family played a significant role in her daily life. She was involved in many areas of the church, such as serving on church boards, ushering, communion set up, funeral committee, bookkeeping for the office, rummage sale, and various bible studies throughout the years. The Trinity Quilting Seesters group has been one of her greatest joys. They have been “sew” important to her since she started quilting in 2015. Because of her love of quilting, she has been able to share the passion with her daughters Lynne and JoAnne. Closest to her heart though, were the ladies in her Sonrise Bible study, which began in 1984 with her, Nell Black, Donna Cambronne, and Joanie Lillivold.
Traveling has always been a priority, whether it was family camping trips or exploring the world internationally. After retirement, Marlice and Bill were able to visit such incredible places including Colombia, Norway, Hawaii, Fiji, Germany, Australia, as well as a mission trip to Tecate, Mexico, and so much more. One of the trips they enjoyed the most was to the Holy Lands with Trinity in 2012. Recently Marlice has been able to embark on new adventures with her daughters to locations such as Costa Rica, the Panama Canal, the British Isles, Greece, Peru, the Galapagos Islands and Alaska (in 2025!).
Marlice was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Bill Shirley. She is survived by her daughters Lynne (Oscar) Marino, Jeanne Rowland, JoAnne (Todd) Hinchliffe. Grandchildren Austin and Blake Hallquist, Emily Thorsheim, Courtney (Connor) Larson, and Oscar and Mateo Marino; and great grandson Bjorn Larson. She also leaves behind her big brother Bob and sister-in-law and friend Sharon, her niece, and nephews.
The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to the Christian Community Homes of Hudson WI for their exceptional care of Marlice in her last few months. A special shout out to all the aides and therapists for the care you provided for her daily needs, you made all the difference in the world for our mom.
A Funeral Service will be held Friday, September 25, 2026 at 11 am at Trinity Lutheran Church West Campus 1205 6th Street Hudson, WI.  Visitation will be on Thursday from 4-7 pm  and on Friday from 10-11 am both at Trinity Lutheran Church West Campus.  Interment will be in Willow River Cemetery in Hudson, WI.  Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services.
