Bonnie Federation, age 82, passed away on September 10, 2026. Born December 6, 1943, in Glenwood, Minnesota to Melvin and Leona Cummins. She grew up in Glenwood and Nevis helping on the family farm with sisters (Elaine, Dorothy, Gloria, Margie and Violet) and brothers (Virgil and John).
She loved cheerleading and roller/ice skating and was honored to be selected to attend MN Girls State and as a Muskie Day queen candidate. Bonnie proudly graduated high school as Salutatorian and with a B.A. in Education from Concordia College. She taught elementary school in Port Hueneme, California, where she married Walt Federation in 1967. After returning to Minnesota, Bonnie dedicated herself to her family for many years, generously serving as a Girl Scout and Boy Scout leader, 4-H leader, Sunday school teacher, and supporter of her children’s many activities. She periodically worked as a substitute teacher and managed a retail clothing store. Later, she worked in office administration and developed a strong interest in medical matters while performing medical transcription services in Wisconsin. Bonnie enjoyed gardening, birds, sewing, swimming, dancing, reading, Bible studies, cooking, baking, music, and travel.
She is survived by her children, Mark, Wendy (Don), Julie and her beloved grandchildren: Skye, Sawyer, Sampson, Lauren, and Ryan.
Bonnie lived a life of faith, learning, service, and adventure, sharing her love of music through church choirs and the Bethel Chorale and Lutheran Church of Peace. She also served for ten years on the Hudson Area Senior Center board. Bonnie was known to be a funny, sweet lady who loved to talk and socialize with people.
The family is holding a private burial and remembrance ceremony at West Immanuel Lutheran Church in Osceola, WI. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to:
