Oliver “LeRoy” Winberg

Oliver L. Winberg (LeRoy) age 92, of New Richmond, Wisconsin, passed away on January 14, 2026, at the Deerfield in New Richmond. LeRoy was born May 26, 1933, in Forest, Wisconsin; the only child of Oliver Eugene and Florence (Fleming) Winberg. In his early years he attended the one-room school at Forest and then Glenwood City Schools. It was there that he met the love of his life, Barbara Mehleis. They dated through high school, and after graduating, married in 1952. While attending business school in St. Paul, Minnesota, LeRoy was drafted into the Army. After basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri he was assigned to Fort Riley in Kansas, and then to Fort Myer in Arlington, Virginia where Barb joined him.  As an office clerk, he kept in contact with Mamie Eisenhower regarding needs at the White House. After serving, he and Barb returned to Forest and started their family. First came Susan, then Teresa, and then their son Michael. LeRoy worked at his father’s Doboy Feed Mill in Forest, taking over ownership when his dad passed away in 1984. LeRoy was the Forest Town Constable, was active in the Methodist Church and served several years on the Glenwood City School Board. He and Barbara traveled to the Bahamas, Bermuda, 49 different states and made several trips to Branson, Missouri. In the early 1980’s LeRoy was one of the founding elders of Living Word Chapel at Forest, Wisconsin. He and Barb spent 71 years living in Forest, but due to health issues moved to The Deerfield in New Richmond in 2023. They were married 73 years.

LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver and Florence Winberg; daughter, Susie Kuhn; and son, Mike Winberg.

He is survived by his wife Barb; daughter, Terri Wilson (Jeff); son-in-law, Terry Kuhn (Kim); grandsons, Lance Kuhn (Kari), Jamey Kuhn (Laura Pederson), Chris Wilson (Bobbi), Greg Wilson (Sai), and Liam Winberg; and great-grandchildren Tyler, Aaron, Parker, Carter, Breckin, Kaysa, Brooks, Mira and Easton.
