Maurice (Morey) Leverty

Maurice L. Leverty (Morey) age 85, of Star Prairie, WI, sadly left us on Thursday, May 2, 2024 after a 2 ½ year illness, surrounded by his family and girlfriend, Chris Boardman. He was born in Burkhardt, WI to Harry and Amelia (Simon) Leverty on August 15, 1938, the 7th of 10 children.

Morey served in the U.S. Armed Forces, stationed in Alaska, from 1960 to 1963. He was employed by Stromberg Carlson of St. Paul. Morey also started a snowmobile (SKI-RULE) dealership in Somerset. Along with partners, he began Float Rite Park and the Lockness Lounge in Somerset. He went into business with Leo Durand at Quike Lube Oil & Rental with locations in New Richmond, Hudson, and Johnson Parkway in St. Paul. He retired at 62 and said, “retirement was the best job he has ever had”. With his brother Bernie Leverty and good friend Leo Durand, they designed and custom built a log cabin on Yellow River in Siren. This was and still is a great source of pride to the three of them.

Morey was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Amelia (Simon) Leverty; his siblings Howard, Ray, Jim, and Bernie Leverty; Marcella Belisle, Marge Proulx, Myrt Moe and Mary Ann Potting. He is survived by a sister Maxine Irons of Charlotte, NC, and his many nieces, nephews and cousins. Also survived by girlfriend Chris Boardman and her family. Jamie (Brent) Aune, Brent Zajac, Ben Zajac and grandkids Gabrielle and Alex Aune, Gavin Zajac and Jonah Brickl. Morey’s hobby was fishing with his many fishing buddies in the UP North Bass tournaments, with the goal of catching fish and awards.

The pallbearers are Todd Larson, Steve Constant, Leo Durand. Jamie Gibson, Pat Lais, Pat Leverty, Tommy John Weiss & George Soifakis.

The visitation will be Thursday, May 9th from 5-8 PM at Cullen Crea Funeral Home in New Richmond, WI and also one hour prior to the Mass at Church. Funeral Service Friday, May 10th at 11 AM at St. Anne’s Church in Somerset, WI. Luncheon to follow at Champs Sports Bar and Grill Events Center in New Richmond, WI.
