Barbara Hegge-Peterson

Barbara Hegge-Peterson

Barbara J. Hegge-Peterson passed away in her home on April 21, 2024.  She was born on October 19, 1943, at the family home in Meenon township to proud parents George C. and Lollie C. (Bildeau) Sheldon.

Barbara married James A. Peterson in 1981 and were happily married until his untimely passing. She was formerly married to Dale W. Hegge Sr., the father of her four children.

Barbara began her education in Siren, Wisconsin.  After a hiatus to raise her children, Barbara returned to school and graduated from Siren High School with honors in 1978.  After graduation, she worked mainly secretarial jobs and later in life she became a certified nursing assistant.  It was this profession, which she exceled at.  She exemplified warmth, empathy, patience, and kindness for residents.  She grew very fond of several residents and was a favorite staff member among residents.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, George and Lollie Sheldon, former husband, Dale W. Hegge Sr., husband, James A. Peterson, brother George C. Sheldon Jr., brother, Donald Sheldon and sister, Sandra Lowry.

She will be greatly missed by her children:  Michael (Tami Reynolds) Hegge, Brian Hegge, Dale Jr. (Amy) Hegge, Raelene Hegge; grandchildren, Angela (Phil) Williamson, Logan Marquez and Ciarah Hegge as well as many other relatives, friends and her beloved dog, Lady.

Barbara’s greatest legacy was her compassion and kindness.  She was an animal lover and was known to care for injured and orphaned animals ranging from a pet crow to baby mice. She was outgoing and would frequently strike up conversations with strangers. Although not always the most tactful, you knew what Barb thought about you.  She was authentic, outspoken, and loved a good joke.   She loved her family and friends, worked hard, and did her best to provide for her family.   In her earlier years, she enjoyed fishing, gardening, harvesting wild rice, and playing slot machines.  In her later years, she enjoyed sitting on the deck, listening to the wind, watching the clouds and various wildlife around the property.

A graveside service will take place at St Mary’s Immaculate Conception church in Hammond, Wisconsin.  A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, May 19th from 1 to 7 p.m. at 25160 Kruger Road, Webster, Wisconsin.  Her family wishes to thank the staff at Lakeview Hospice and volunteers for their loving and compassionate care in her last days.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, please consider a donation to a local animal shelter in memory of Barb.
