Charles Votruba

Charles “Charlie” Votruba, age 80, of New Richmond, Wisconsin, passed away on October 18, 2023, at Golden Age Manor in Amery, Wisconsin, following a courageous battle with dementia and MS. He was born on August 4, 1943, to George and Martha (Hruska) Votruba in Rice Lake, Wisconsin.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and eight siblings: Steve, George, Bernard, Ruth, Mary Anne, Ed, Kathy, and Paul.

After graduating from Rice Lake High School in 1961, he attended Dunwoody Technical College in Minneapolis with his plans on being a machinist. He found a job at Carnation in Oconomowoc after finishing his studies. This is where he met Carol Reimer at a carnival, he was working on the weekend doing the high striker game. He was an Army veteran and served from 1965-1967 stationed in South Korea. After returning from his service, he married Carol on May 18, 1968, at St. Jerome’s Catholic Church in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin.

Charlie enjoyed spending time with his family and was a long-time member of the Somerset American Legion Post 111, serving as both vice president and chaplain. He served his church of St. Anne’s as both a CCD teacher and Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus. He also worked at 3M for many years.

Charlie is survived by his beloved wife, Carolyn “Carol” (Reimer) Votruba; daughter, Cindy (Ross Holmberg) Votruba; son, Christopher “Chris” Votruba; siblings, Lorraine (Hubert) Livingston, Fran Votruba, and Tom (Sue) Votruba.

Mass of Christian Burial 11 AM Monday October 23, 2023, at Assumption Catholic Church in East Farmington (265 WI-35 Osceola, WI 54020). Visitation for one hour prior to Mass at the church. Graveside service will be held immediately following the Funeral Mass at St. Anne’s Catholic Cemetery in Somerset, Wisconsin. Reception to follow at approximately 1 PM at the Somerset American Legion Post 111 (464 Co Rd V V Somerset, WI 54025). Military Honors provided by the Somerset American Legion Post 111.
