Paul McAndrew

Paul McAndrew

Paul James McAndrew, 75, died peacefully at Regions Hospital, St. Paul, MN on July 4, 2020 with his family beside him to walk him home.

Born in St. Paul, MN on August 7, 1944 to Gorden and Mary (Callahan) McAndrew, he lived nearly his entire life in New Richmond, Wisconsin where he attended school at St. Mary School and graduated from New Richmond High School in 1963 where he met Elaine Humpal, his wife of 55 years.

As a young man, Paul learned to work hard as a paperboy and managed enough mischief for a lifetime supply of stories along with aspirations to be a cowboy named Kid KaMandrew. He worked as a meat cutter and later returned to St. Mary School and Immaculate Conception Church as a custodian.

Paul was a great storyteller who was deeply proud of his Irish heritage and never tired of hearing “My Wild Irish Rose”. He was an outdoors-man who enjoyed camping and the woods and lakes of northern Wisconsin and happily captained the pontoon on family voyages across Cedar Lake.  He cheered for the Green Bay Packers and the Milwaukee Brewers and always enjoyed a good Western on TV.  Paul was a strong, proud, and good man who believed in a firm handshake and that the best meals included meat, potatoes, and a slice of cherry pie. His favorite farewell was “Take it easy and watch for deer!”

Paul is survived by his wife Elaine of New Richmond; his daughter Carrie and husband Tim Sellner and their children, Emma, Franklin and Phillip of Minneapolis; his son Mike and Landa and their son Tyler of New Richmond and Kalina Solmonson and her son Zayne Pavlovsky of Oregon; his sister RoseAnn (Jim) Geurkink, mother-in-law Phyllis Humpal, sister-in-law Pam Humpal, brother-in-law Frank (Shari) Humpal; cousins Rita Riley, Tom (Karen) McAndrew, and Kevin Donahue; nieces, nephews, and longtime friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Gorden and Mary McAndrew, father-in-law Al Humpal and brother-in-law Dave Humpal.

Mass of Christian burial at 2 PM on Friday, August 14 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Richmond, Wisconsin. Visitation will begin one hour before Mass at the church. Please be mindful of social distancing as we gather and please wear face masks.
