Gerald “Perry” Olsen

Age 84 of New Richmond, Wisconsin passed away peacefully on Friday January 17, 2020 at the Hammond Care Center.  He was born on August 29, 1935 to George & Bernice (Harvieux) Olsen in Amery, Wisconsin. He attended school in New Richmond and was Baptized and Confirmed in the Catholic Church. Gerald Joined the Army and was stationed in Korea from 1953-1956. Upon returning home, he picked up jobs here and there including working at Do-Boy, Flexo-Sweep and the Bass Lake Cheese Factory. He met Doris Osborne the love of his life and were married on September 5, 1961 they had 3 beautiful children in that marriage. Perry went to build a living, owning his own salvage yard from 1971-1980 and was very successful. Semi-retired in 1980 after selling the yard he continued to build a nest egg with storage and rental property incomes. Perry refused to quit working and continued to scrap metals up until he could not physically lift anymore. Perry and Doris were married for 49 years until cancer took Doris 9 years ago. Perry continued making his weekly trips to the casino, something he and Doris really enjoyed up until he could no longer find the strength to go. Perry loved camping with his family and friends while raising the family. Perry loved to fish in his free time. He also enjoyed hunting deer and small game. Perry and Doris were on a trap league for years. He very much enjoyed certain TV shows the past few years including, The Curse of Oak Island, Gold Rush and RFD Old Country Music on Saturday nights. They both enjoyed watching the Packers and buying football tickets.

Gerald was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Doris (Osborne)  Olsen; daughter, Laurie Merriman; brothers, Jay Olsen and Gary Olsen and his parents, George & Bernice Olsen.

Gerald is survived by his two sons, Robert (Jody) Olsen and Gregory (Catherine) Olsen; two sisters, Beverly (Ray) Nutzman and Mary Jo (Clinton) Johnson; 8 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; also many nieces, nephews, friends and family.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday January 21, 2020 at the West Immanuel Lutheran Church 447 180th Street Osceola, Wisconsin. The visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. He will be buried in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the New Richmond American Legion Post 80.
