Albert “Bert” Russell 11/16/2025

Albert S. “Bert” Russell, age 82, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2025, at the Kinnic Health Nursing Home and Rehab in River Falls, WI. He was born the son of Al and Evelyn (nee Shrader) Russell on June 22, 1943, in Litchfield, IL. Bert grew up in Litchfield, graduating from Litchfield High School. He later went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in vocational education at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.

Bert married Patricia A. (Pat) Holderread on August 31, 1963, in Litchfield, IL at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Bert worked at the First National Bank of Litchfield from 1986-2010 and after retiring continued to work until his death as a bank consultant. Bert was a devoted Catholic and a loving dad, grandpa, and great grandpa to his family. He was very proud of his grandkids and great-grandkids and loved when they visited texted or called.

Bert is survived by his children, Matt (Susan), Kris (Andy) Murgas, and Kerri (Kevin) Schmedeke; grandchildren, Rachel (John) Mueller, Jonathan, Ryan (Abigail), Aspen (Lionel) Sotelo, Eric Murgas, Katelyn, Daniel, and Megan Schmedeke; great-grandchildren, Adam, Joey, Elena, and Melanie Mueller; sisters, Barbara (Earl) Schmidt, Becky (Perry) Jackson, Brenda (Doug) Johnson; and many other relatives and friends.

Bert was preceded in death by his parents, Al and Evelyn Russell, and wife Patricia Russell. A very warm and heartfelt thank you to everyone from Kinnic Health Nursing Home and Rehab, St. Croix Hospice, and Bay Harbor of River Falls, WI.

A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. November 29, 2025, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Litchfield, IL. Fr. Daniel Willenborg, assisted by Deacon Leland Johns, will officiate. Visitation will be at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of mass. Interment will be in Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Litchfield, IL.
