John Bryan Dean
November 16, 1945 – January 9, 2025
John Dean slept away in the early hours of the morning of January 09, 2025. He was born to Jack and Elaine (Moore) Dean in Baldwin Wisconsin on November 16, 1945, the second of six children. He was baptized on December 9th, 1945, in St. Patrick’s Church of Erin Township. After graduating from New Richmond high school, June 7th, 1963, he served for the Army of the United States until his honorable discharge on October 11th, 1966. He later met Mary Ann Frandrup of Prescott, Wisconsin. They married at Saint Boniface Church in Hastings, Minnesota on August 7th, 1976. Together they raised six children – Jonathan, Christopher, Michael, AnnMarie, Nathan and AnnElissa.
John committedly provided for his family as a Union Meat Cutter in the Twin Cities. He began his trade just after high school as a butcher, hired by his uncle William Cody to work in Cody’s Meat Market, Somerset, WI. John retired from the Union in 2007.
John was a devoted husband and dedicated father. His mid-weekdays off from meat-cutting were also days off for his homeschooled children. He spent the days with them at hobby farming his corner of the generational Dean family farm, vegetable gardening, raising his own beef and mutton, field trips to Willow River State Park, 4-H projects, bowling, skiing, and fishing.
A cradle Catholic, John had a quiet personal devotion to the Most Sacred Heart, habitually before its image in the home offering the small personal prayer, “Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, I love you very much. Save souls and keep the Devil off my back.” His prayer intentions at the family rosary always included “the sick, and the poor, and the hurting.” He was also 4th degree Knight of Columbus.
A lifelong resident of New Richmond, he loved his home community. He sought to offer friendliness to everyone with whom he could make or identify a connection. He often visited local elderly and homebound, taking opportunities in the outreach programs Meals on Wheels and Home Delivered Meals to do so. Countless people can attest to his friendly apostolate of personal letters, handwritten notes, and greeting cards.
Ever after his own military service John revered those who served and never hesitated to thank a person in uniform. He remained a continuous supporter of both the DAV and VFW.
When the Green Bay Packers resumed selling stock in 1997, John became a National Football League franchise owner. Despite his proud ownership, “The Cardiac Pack” of the ‘70’s and 80’s eroded his ability to watch complete games. He never fully recovered. Even when in attendance at Lambeau Field he would leave the stadium if the Packers were down and walk to Fuzzy Thurston’s bar.
John is survived by his wife of over 48 years Mary Ann, his sister Colleen (Salvatore) Lovinello; children, Jonathan (Jessica) Dean, Christopher (Shauna) Dean, Michael (Sofia) Dean, AnnMarie (Peter) Loegering, Nathan Dean, and AnnElissa (Thomas) Dickson; grandchildren, Dakota, Axel, Michael John, Rose, Maura, Seamus, Sean, Liam, Laurna, Dymphna, Teresa, Thomas, Gianna, Marcus, Lucia, Karl, Joseph, Ava, Cristina, Elissa, Melchizedek, Balthazar, Hezekiah.
John was preceded in death by his parents, John “Jack” and Elaine; siblings Mary Kathleen “Kathy” Knoebel, Margaret McNamara, George Dean, and Patricia Casey.
Eternal rest grant unto John Bryan, Oh Lord; and let perpetual light shine upon him.
