Betty “Betz” King, age 84, of Hudson, will be remembered fondly as a loving mother, devoted friend, and spirited companion. On April 10, 2025, she passed away peacefully at her home, leaving a legacy of love and hearts full of cherished memories.
Betty was born on February 16, 1941, in Radisson, WI, and adopted by Everette “Chilly” and Margaret (Graves) Chilgren. She began her journey working in the restaurant industry, where she spent 25 years waitressing and managing, building lasting friendships and spreading joy. Later on, her caring nature led her to train as a direct care specialist, where she dedicated herself to helping developmentally disabled adults.
Betty had a zest for life that was infectious. In her younger years, she loved country music and dancing. As she grew older, she found peace in her garden, spending countless hours arranging her flowers and nurturing her plants. Holidays were a big deal for Betty—there wasn’t a holiday that went by without her festive decorations.
Family meant everything to her. She leaves behind her children: Keith Allen (Marion) King of St. Paul, Debra Lee (Dan Scray) Andrews of Houlton, Pamela Jean (Joseph) Deutsch of Sarona, and Richard Dale (Kristi) King of West St. Paul. She was blessed with 8 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, who fondly referred to her as GG. Betty also had a special bond with her “sister by heart,” Sandy Strange, and she recently discovered a brother, Tom (Geri) Anderson, adding even more joy to her life.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved partner and the father of her children, Bruce Robert King, and her dear friend and companion, Larry Jensen.
The family wants to extend a heartfelt thank you to the wonderful staff at Adoray Home Health and Hospice for their loving care in her final days, as well as the dedicated caregivers, Colleen, Amber, Gretchen, Jess, and Angel, who helped make this journey easier for her and the family. A special mention goes to long-time family friends Nancy Fouks and Liz Moline for their unwavering support.
A celebration of Betty’s life will be held on Friday, April 25, 2025, from 1:00 to 4:00 pm, with a memorial service kicking off at 2:30 pm at Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services, located at 728 S Knowles Ave in New Richmond. Following the service, there will be the interment at Willow River Cemetery in Hudson and gathering at Betty’s following the cemetery.
Come share stories, laughter, and the love that Betty brought into all our lives.
Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services.

Grandma Betty, you glorious firecracker. We’re going miss that sharp wit and your unmatched zest for life. Hopefully they’ve got Elvis on repeat up there, or better yet, maybe he’s dropping new albums and saving front row seats just for you. Heaven just got a whole lot livelier. Love you.
