Kevin Caldwell Kuss, age 58 of Stillwater, Minnesota died Sunday June 4, 2017 after a painful one year battle with kidney cancer. Kevin was born in Eau Claire, Wisconsin to Roger and Arnell Kuss. He graduated from River Falls High School and earned an accounting degree from Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, AZ. Preceded in death by his grandparents and parents; survived by his wife Sue, daughters Kessea (Dave) Paulson and Lauren, granddaughters Kameron and Hannah Paulson, sister Kim (Brian) Ozzello, nieces Callyssa and Trudy Ozzello, brother Kyle (Tracy), mother-in-law Phyllis Brinkman, brother-in-law Kurt Brinkman and nieces Heather and Ashley. Kevin always worked in the public sector and was most recently employed by Michigan State University as Vice President of Operations for the Information Technology Department.
Kevin will be remembered by his family and friends for his infectious laugh, lovable personality and caring nature. He was an avid reader and problem solver extraordinaire. He loved to tease and had a playful sense of humor. Kevin was admired as an outstanding athlete and a phenomenal water skier. As a young man, swim suits were optional. Our lives have been made richer by knowing and loving him. We lost Kevin much too soon.
A Celebration of Kevin’s Life was held Thursday, June 8, 2017 from 3-6 pm with a Service beginning at 4 pm at StoneRidge Golf Club (13600 Hudson Blvd.) Stillwater, MN. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to: J. Roger Kuss Memorial Athletic Leadership Fund (checks made: UWRF Foundation) or American Diabetes Association (give online: diabetes.org).
Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services of Hudson.

I had the honor of bringing Kevin to MSU to work on the Enterprise Business Systems Project. We worked together from 2008-2012. Kevin was leader in our project management office. He was an outstanding contributor of useful ideas, and was able to handle the ups and downs of life on complex projects. His perspective and advice was sought frequently by many on the project. His innate optimism and keen sense of humor helped us all as we worked to implement the university’s new systems. His ability to work with a broad base of users, to achieve consensus, and to make progress made him a one-of-a-kind person that Michigan State came to cherish. Please accept my deepest condolences on Kevin’s passing. He will be missed.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I worked with Kevin during our implementation of SAP at Johns Hopkins in Maryland. It was a pleasure to work with him on the project. He was such a nice person and I will always remember him.
It is very sad to learn of Kevin’s passing, but I also am very pleased to have had the opportunity to know and work with Kevin. He indeed was a wonderful problem solver and project manager, with all of the great supply of patience, good humor, wisdom and persistence needed for those roles. He will certainly be missed, but has left everyone who knew him enriched.
I am so sorry and saddened to hear of your loss. Kevin was such a blessing to work with and although we hadn’t been in touch of late, I’ll always remember and recall hearing about his weekends home with his family in Minnesota. You will be missed but never forgotten Kevin and my thoughts and prayers are with his dear family and friends.

We are deeply saddened to hear of your loss and Kevin’s battle with cancer. Kevin’s leadership on the PA state government SAP implementation, the first state SAP project in the nation, was invaluable. He was kind, knowledgeable, and genuinely cared about his work and meeting his clients’ requirements. In this role he was an extreme problem solver and very smart. We are all blessed to have known him. May he rests in peace. Sending deepest sympathy and prayers for his wife and entire family.
Rest in peace Kevin. My heart goes out to his family. Kevin and I worked together for a few years putting in long hours side by side. It was exhausting but I don’t think I ever enjoyed work so much. His knowledge, kindness, and humor were the best a person can have. He and I have not been in touch of late, but he is a person I think of often. He loved his family. He was one of a kind. I will never forget him. I wish his family the best memories to help them through this difficult time.

He taught me a lot and was my mentor. Thing I will always remember was his positive attitude and problem solving skills. He will be missed. Deepest condolences to Kevin’s wife and family.
I was so sad to hear about your loss. Kevin brought me into Michigan State University and was one of the smartest and warmest people that I’ve ever known. He had a great sense of humor and was optimistic through the ups and downs of life. He was simply, a very nice person. I will certainly miss him and his smile. Our thoughts go out to your family.

Wow. So sorry to hear this. I had the pleasure of working with Kevin on the John Hopkins project. I was so impressed with his technical and emotional intelligence. My condolences to his loved ones on your big loss.
