Virginia Kastens 03/09/2014

Virginia Anne “Ginny” Kastens age 83 of New Richmond died Sunday, March 9, 2014 surrounded by her family.  She was born the daughter of Carl and Myrtle (Benser) Gunderson on Jun 11, 1930 in Rice Lake, WI.  Virginia was baptized and confirmed at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Amery, WI and graduated from Amery High School in 1948, when many knew her as Gundy.  On Oct 6, 1951, Ginny married Gerald Kastens.  She was a farm wife who raised five children and was an active member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Ladies Aid and Extension Homemakers for more than 50 years. She was known for the beautiful decorated cakes she made. After retirement Ginny and Gerry worked across the states with Laborers for Christ building schools, churches and assisting with disaster relief. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Gerald; her children, Cyndi (Mylan Erickson) Kastens, Julie (Dennis) Wolterstorff, Mark (Kathy) Kastens, Steve (Connie) Kastens, Kaye “Charli” (Sam) King; her grandchildren, Nate (Katie) Williams, Michelle (Mike) Cain, Mark Lee (Kaitlin) Kastens, Scott Kastens, Libby Kastens, Mandy (Darren) Ingram, Zeke King, Orren King; 5 great-grandchildren; many relatives and church family and friends. Visitation was Thursday March 13, 2014 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church from 3:00-5:00 pm, memorial service followed at 5:00 pm.  Interment was Friday, March 14, 2014 at 11:00 am at Calvary Cemetery in Deer Park.  Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services Beebe Chapel of New Richmond.
