Myrtle Elizabeth Ostness “Eric”, age 103 of New Richmond, WI, died on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at the Deerfield Gables in New Richmond. Eric was born the daughter of William and Gena (Peterson) Wilen on July 23, 1914 in Star Prairie, WI. She attended the Star Prairie School through 10th grade. Eric worked for the St. Peter family to earn room and board while attending high school in New Richmond. She graduated from New Richmond High School with the class of 1933. Eric married Paul Larson on June 8, 1935. They had three children, Barry Larson, (1936 – 2006,) Mary Larson Stainer and Sally Larson Peterson. They lived on a farm a few miles north of New Richmond. Paul, her husband passed away in 1978. When Eric sold the farm, she moved to an apartment on eleventh street in New Richmond. She was married to Einar Ostness in 1980. Einar passed away in 1995. Eric moved to the Gables in March of 2012 after she injured herself falling in her home. She is preceded in death by her parents, William and Gena Wilen; husbands, Paul Larson and Einar Ostness; son, Barry (Colleen) Larson; siblings, Lester (Helen) Wilen, Gladys (Ed) Erickson, Willard (Leona) Wilen, Russell Wilen; and son-in-law, Michael Peterson. Eric is survived by her daughters, Mary Kay Stainer, Sally Ann Peterson; grandchildren, Cynthia (Lee) Piepkorn, Bradley (Jule) Larson, Cathleen (John) Larson-Ward, Rondi (Mike) Jenkins-Remer, Kristin (Mark) Stainer-Person, Carin Loen, Dana (Jeffrey) Peterson-Christopherson, Matthew (Jessica) Peterson; great-grandchildren, Jeremiah (Cassie) Piepkorn, Patrick (Megan) Piepkorn, Brenna Piepkorn, Michelle Larson, Brianna Larson, Matthew Larson, Joe Jenkins, Pam (Rob) Overby, Ashley Jenkins, Megan Jenkins, Max Person, Avery Person, Sydney Person, Matia Person, Luke Loen, Marissa Loen, Evan Christopherson, Nyssa Christopherson, Elliana Peterson, Maya Peterson, Trinity Peterson, Flint Peterson; great great-grandchildren, Brooks Piepkorn, Bodie Piepkorn, Charlotte Overby; and many nieces, nephews relatives and friends. A memorial service was held on Friday, December 22, 2017 at 11 am at the First Lutheran Church 218 County Road K New Richmond, WI. Visitation was also on Friday, December 22, 2017 from 10-11 am at the church. Interment was in the New Richmond Cemetery. Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services Beebe Chapel of New Richmond.

My sympathies to you all. I remember when my mother Eva Halvorson would stop with Aunt Vera and have coffee and cake, with Eric in her Wall Street Home. Eric was always a sharp dresser and my mother would wear her “Sarah Coventry” to church. The last time I saw her at her new residence, she did a little dance! She could still move and had such joy in her heart. What a life, 103 years. I sure enjoyed her memorial video.
